The project
Dance Comes Closer brings dance into the living spaces of older people in Barcelona's municipal care homes, turning those settings into places of movement, creation and encounter.
Each week a team of choreographers and dancers runs adapted dance sessions to lift the mood and encourage interpersonal relationships.
The barriers it breaks down
Mobility barriers
We bring dance to the care homes so that travelling is not an obstacle to taking part.
Bodily barriers
We break with the idea that dancing demands technique: the dance is built from what each person can do.
Cognitive barriers
We work through sensitive proposals connected to music, rhythm and body memory.
Barriers to participation
People are part of the experience: the dance is created with them.
Model
Weekly participatory sessions adapted to the people taking part, treating dance as a form of expression beyond performance.
